Out of 54 Presidents, Meet the Only 4 Presidents Buhari is Following on Twitter (Photos)

The Buhari-led federal government has done remarkably well in the area of digital engagement, especially on social media. At the social media week, Tolu Ogunlesi, President Buhari’s Special Assistant on Digital and New media assured that more platforms will be created to battle spread of false information.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s Twitter account which was opened in December 2014 has become the source of factual information from the Presidency. It is interesting to note that as at the time this report was published on April 19, 2017, the account has 979,000 followers and followers only 22 handles.

Out of the 22 handles, only 4 of them belong to presidents of other countries. Who are these presidents?

1. Macky Sall

Macky Sall is the current president of the Republic of Senegal
The first is the president of Senegal, Macky Sall who was born on December 11, 1961 and has been President of Senegal since April 2012.
Under President Abdoulaye Wade, Sall was Prime Minister of Senegal from April 2004 to June 2007 and President of the National Assembly of Senegal from June 2007 to November 2008.

2. Bibi Ameenah

Bibi Ameenah went from a biopersity scientist to President of Mauritius.
Bibi Ameenah Firdaus Gurib-Fakim, is a Mauritian biopersity scientist who has served as the President of Mauritius since 2015.

Born on October 17, 1959, in December 2014, she was selected to be the presidential candidate of the Alliance Lepep. After Kailash Purryag resigned on May 29, 2015, both Prime Minister Sir Anerood Jugnauth and Leader of the Opposition Paul Berenger positively welcomed her nomination, which was unanimously approved in a vote in the National Assembly.

3. Paul Kagame

President Paul Kagame went from commanding a rebel force to being President of Rwanda
Born on October 23, 1957, Paul Kagame is the sixth and current President of Rwanda having taken office in 2000 when his predecessor, Pasteur Bizimungu, resigned.
Kagame previously commanded the rebel force that ended the 1994 Rwandan Genocide. He was considered Rwanda’s de facto leader when he served as Vice President and Minister of Defence from 1994 to 2000.

4. Jacob Zuma

Jacob Zuma was once the deputy president of South Africa.

Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Zuma, who was born on April 12, 1942 is the President of South Africa, elected by parliament following his party’s victory in the 2009 general election. He was re-elected in the 2014 election.

Zuma is the President of the African National Congress (ANC), the governing political party, and was Deputy President of South Africa from 1999-2005.
Meanwhile, on April 10, 2017, it was reported that the federal government has dismissed claims circulating on the social media that it has mandated that ministry of interior to monitor and record all phone calls and social media posts made by citizens.

The minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed, described the reports as false and misleading, and in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, April 10, said the report was another example of disinformation that has permeated the media space, especially the social media.
