Chibok Girls still alive, new Boko Haram video reveals
The House of Representatives on Tuesday urged the Federal Government to expedite negotiations for the release of the remaining abducted Chibok school girls under the captivity of the Boko Haram sect.
This resolution followed the adoption of a motion sponsored by Rep. Asabe Bashir (Borno/APC).
Moving the motion, Rep. Bashir expressed concern that three years after their abduction, 195 abducted Chibok school girls were still being held in captivity while negotiations for their release seem to have reached a dead end.
She expressed further concern that the abducted school girls could be subjected to more hardship, molestation, abuse, rape, and forceful marriage by their abductors.
Rep. Bashir therefore asked the Federal Government to make public the condition and how well the rehabilitation of the earlier released 21 school girls had progressed, adding that the freed Chibok school girls, according to media reports, were preparing for their final secondary school exams at an undisclosed private school in Abuja.
The lawmaker stated that the Federal Government had in 2016 disclosed that the government was negotiating with Boko Haram for the release of 83 out of the remaining 195 abducted girls still in captivity.
The motion was unanimously adopted by members when it was put to a voice vote by Speaker Yakubu Dogara.
The House, therefore, mandated its Committee on Women Affairs, to ascertain the condition and rehabilitation of the released school girls and report back within three weeks for further legislative action.
